An antique sterling silver locket crafted in the style of the Aesthetic movement (1860-1900). The front of the locket depicts a wading stork in varicoloured enamel, while the reverse features an engraving of a songbird on a tree branch.

This piece was probably originally given to celebrate a new birth. The stork was used as a metaphor for commitment and family values because it mates for life. A lovely, sentimental piece in wonderful condition considering it is just shy of 150 years old.

Fully stamped for sterling silver, Birmingham, 1879. Marker's mark 'JFM'.

Weight (approximate): 15.5g

Measurements (approximate): 40mm x 32mm (not including bale).

Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The enamel work is in very good condition with only minor losses. There are light marks and general wear to the silver - the rear of the locket with the songbird engraving has a light dent near a leaf at the 10 o'clock position. The hinge and locket closure function well. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Cost includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
