An exceptional antique snake ring, designed so that the coils of its body wrap to encircle your finger in a wide yellow gold band. The snake's head is set with an old cut diamond held in a star setting. The ring is fully stamped and was made in 1918, falling in the small window between the Edwardian and Art Deco periods of design. It is a beautiful example of the craze for serpent jewellery that held society in thrall beginning in Victorian times.
Size P (US 8), but fits more like an O (US 7.5) due to the width of the band. Not resizable without losses to the design.
Stamped for Birmingham, 18ct, 1918, with maker's mark 'H.W.Ld' (Henry Williamson Ltd.).
Weight (approximate): 6.2g
Measurements (approximate): Band measures 13mm at the widest point; 9mm at the narrowest. Diamond is 2mm in diameter.
Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The gold has general light marks and one of the snake's eyes is rubbed. The diamond is lively and in good condition. The hallmarks are crisp and clear. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
