A beautiful example of an antique rivière ring dating to the late-Georgian era (1714-1836). With seven foil-backed diamonds of graduating size (a rose cut at the centre, and a mixture of table- and rose cuts besides), 'rivière' translates literally to ‘river’ in French and is used to describe pieces with matching gems set in a string. The diamonds are mounted in silver cut down collets typical of the era, with an 18ct rose gold band.
Stamped with what I believe to be the French rooster's head mark to the band's exterior (along with two other illegible marks) and the Swedish control mark (probably an import mark) to the band's interior.
Size: P (US 8). Cannot be resized.
Weight (approximate): 1.6g
Measurements (approximate): Largest diamond measures 3mm x 3.25mm (visible part only). Band measures 4.5mm at widest point, tapering to 1.5mm at the rear.
Condition: Very good, with wear commensurate with age. All stones are present and appear to be original. The largest diamond is in excellent condition; a small chip to two of the flanking stones is visible when viewed under magnification. The foiling has some oxidation, as is typical of pieces of this type and age. Overall, a lovely piece in very good condition for its 200+ years. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
NOTE: To preserve the foiling, this ring should not be exposed to liquids or moisture.
Price includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
