A rare and sentimental antique witch's heart brooch, dating to the Georgian period (1714-1836). The brooch is set with 36 flat cut garnets, foil backed with lots of sparkle, in a 9ct yellow gold mount. Witch's heart brooches symbolise that the wearer is 'bewitched by love'. This example, with an arrow piercing the heart, is especially rare - we have never seen one of this design before.
No stamps are present, but the gold tests as 9ct.
Weight (approximate): 4.7g
Measurements (approximate): 32mm (W) x 36mm (L)
Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The garnets are lively and have little to no abrasion, however, there are cracks to a few. One garnet at the tip of the arrow is deficient. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Cost includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
