A rare and sentimental antique Georgian era (1714-1836) mourning ring, inscribed with the French 'Il fut amie' ('he was loved') to a black enamel panel with a halo of seed pearls to represent tears. The shoulders are of unusual design, formed by a series of oval-shaped loops. The ring is crafted in 9ct yellow gold throughout. The reverse of the ring head has a personal engraving which reads 'Robt Brooke, Ob May 18th , 1803, AE 22' and a glazed panel. Small in size, it is perfect for wear as a pinky ring.
No stamps are present, but the gold tests as a minimum of 9ct.
Size I ½ (US 4.75). Cannot be resized.
Weight (approximate): 3.3g
Measurements (approximate): Enamel panel measures 15mm x 10.5mm.
Condition: Fair, with wear commensurate with age. There is some loss and abrasion to the enamel. The seed pearls are largely in good condition, with one showing some slight discoloration. The glazed panel is cloudy. The band is slightly out of round. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
