An incredibly rare pair of antique hairwork drop earrings dating to the Victorian period (1837-1901). Each earring consists of three interlocked loops (two round, one oval) suspended from each other, with beadwork to the top and bottom. While the top half of each loop is worked in gold, the bottom half features an openwork design with woven hairwork (most likely commemorating a departed loved one of their original owner's). Crafted in 14ct yellow gold throughout, these unusual and highly collectible earrings are sure to be a talking point wherever they are worn.
No stamps are present, but the gold tests as a minimum of 14ct.
Weight (approximate): 5.9g (total).
Measurements (approximate): Drops measure 44mm x 15mm (not including bale). Full drop length (from top of shepherd hook to bottom of earring) is 50mm.
Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The gold has light marks and general wear. There is a small hole and some minor fraying to the hairwork at the back of one earring. Please see pictures for details and please don't hesitate to ask questions.
