An eye-catching antique Victorian era (1837-1901) horseshoe locket in sterling silver (back and front). The front of the locket is adorned with a large embossed horseshoe (to bring the wearer good luck) on an intricately engraved background. The rear of the locket is also engraved with a detailed floral design featuring forget-me-nots (symbolising remembrance). The inside of the locket has a double-sided compartment with the original frames.
Fully stamped for sterling silver (lion passant), Birmingham, maker's mark 'J&F.S'. The date stamp is a little unclear, but I believe it is either an 'f' (1880) or a 't' (1893).
Locket measures approximately: 30mm x 25mm (not including bale).
Weight: approximately 5.1g
Condition: Good with wear commensurate with age. There are a few bumps, dents and fine scratches which are captured in the pictures. The hinge functions well and it shuts flush. The frame is present inside the locket, but there is no glass or plastic. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Cost includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
