A spectacular snake bangle dating to the Victorian era (1837-1901). This stunning and rare piece is styled as a snake coiling its body around the wrist, with a cobalt blue enamel head, seed pearl crown and brows, and garnet set eyes. No detail has been overlooked in the making of this bangle - from the guilloche enamel with scrolled details, to the chased gold body, and the tiny fangs and forked tongue in the snake's mouth.
The bangle is accompanied by an antique box with red velvet outer and cream silk interior.
No hallmarks are present but the gold tests as 14ct.
Weight: 19.7g
Size: The bangle has sprung hinges and is adjustable in size. I would recommend it for small to medium wrists.
Measurements: the bangle is 16mm at its widest point tapering to 3.5mm at the narrowest point. With the hinges unsprung the internal diameter is 48mm x 37.5mm.
Condition: Very good with minor wear in relation to age. There are some very slight losses to the enamel. There is one seed pearl missing from the snake's brow - the tiniest one that sits behind the coil of the snake's body, so is not visible when worn. The hinge mechanism works perfectly. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Cost includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
