An extraordinary vintage Egyptian revival scarab ring dating to the 1929. The teal coloured faience is carved as a scarab beetle with hieroglyphics to the rear, to a 9ct rose gold band. There is a personal engraving inside the band which reads 'Jack 1919'.
In ancient Egypt, the scarab was held sacred as a symbol of resurrection, and carved versions were often worn as talismans or amulets. Scarab jewellery became popular again in the late 19th century (and remains so today), after archaeological digs uncovered troves of lost Egyptian treasure, triggering wonder, excitement and Egyptian-inspired fashions in the Western world.
